The theme in Magic Realism art often includes commonplace objects from everyday life with elements from our world of imagination. Though related to the surrealist movement, magic realism differs in its focus to depict objects or people in the real world, as opposed to the more psychological and subconscious quality of surrealism.
In simple terms, Magic Realism is a reinterpretation of reality as we know it. However, not all artists that use this particular visual language favor to over-emphasize the fantastic or magical aspect of it. Some of them rather look at the mundane through a hyper-realistic and mysterious magnifying glass. Many early artists in this category were influenced by works of French naive painter Henri Rousseau and from the Metaphysical art of Italian artist Giorgio de Chirico.
